Hartsville Soup Kitchen
“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.”
Hartsville Soup Kitchen Ministry at Wesley United Methodist
Hot meals are served every Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., including holidays. The Soup Kitchen Mission is truly a Hartsville mission, as many churches, clubs and organizations assist with cooking and serving meals.
The Soup Kitchen Mission has served over 104,000 individuals since it opened in 1998 with a Christian spirit. We are open as scheduled- even if the scheduled day happens to fall on a holiday. We have never missed serving since we opened. This past year over 22,000+ hot meals have been served. Meals are served Monday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome with no questions asked. The mission is a member of Harvest Hope Food Bank from which a majority of our food is obtained. We are authorized to receive USDA food from Harvest Hope at no charge. The USDA food is generally beans, rice, fresh vegetables and fruit. We frequently receive donations of food from individuals, schools, clubs and businesses. All food is kept in our freezers and pantry on site. Meals usually consist of a meat, two vegetables, bread and butter, sweet tea, punch, and dessert. Food is not permitted to be carried out and must be eaten at the Mission.
Our individuals served consist of the elderly who have limited income and cannot pay their medical expenses and still have money for food; individuals with disabilities; families who are down on their luck; men and women who are either unemployed or make minimum wage; farm workers; and Christian workers such as those that come to work on houses for Habitat for Humanity. Recently a young teenager brought us a donation. While speaking to him we learned that he and his mother had come to eat with us. He said that “no one embarrassed them”. You could tell that he and his mother were proud and felt humbled by having to eat with us. The spirit of Christ is in the Mission.
Please stop by any day we are open to inspect our facility and to eat with us if you like. We pray that you will find it in your hearts to support this need in our area.
